Mission Statement
Urban Juncture, Inc. develops commercial real estate and related enterprises that address the needs of currently underserved urban communities. Our enterprises are tailored to the unique needs of their host communities. Generally they provide a combination of job opportunities to long-time residents, access to quality goods and services to attract and retain new residents and businesses, and unique events and attractions that encourage tourist and business traffic and spending. As a result, they help to stabilize the community, facilitate its integration with the broader region, and improve the well-being and economic self-sufficiency of residents.
The need – and the opportunity – is great. A wide gap exists between the bustling downtown districts of many of our leading metropolises and the disadvantaged, largely ethnic and minority, communities located in their inner cities and in some edge suburbs. While these ethnic communities are geographically close to downtown, they are often economically and socially isolated. Bridging this gap is one of the most important challenges facing America today. Past policies focused solely on subsidies have failed. We must invest in creating economic foundations for our communities.
Commerce must meet community. Successfully marrying commerce and community requires a deep understanding of and appreciation for both commerce and community and the ability to anticipate and address conflicts between them. To these ends, we work closely with three key sets of constituencies:
¶ With community residents and leaders to define the needs of the community, gain an understanding of its history, and leverage its assets,
¶ With the business sector to obtain access to capital and other resources, and
¶ With elected officials and leaders in the foundation sector to create the infrastructure and environment required for success.
Our success is measured by our impact on our host communities and our ability to deliver attractive returns (in terms of both financial and human/societal metrics) to our partners, public and private. We earn the opportunity to expand our efforts, when we demonstrate success with each of our three constituencies.
